World of Warcraft Exceeds $1 Billion Revenue in 2013

World of Warcraft brought in over $1 billion in revenue and capturing 36% of MMO market in 2013, according to SuperData research. Subscription based MMO market has decreased since 2010 due to free-to-play alternatives, dropping from 30.6 million monthly active subscribers worldwide to 23.4 million this year.

However, additional revenues gained from in-game microtransactions has doubled from 14% to 27% as several game publishers switched to microtransaction-based revenue model to recuperate from dwindling numbers of subscribers.

Lineage 1 made $253 million with market share of 9% and TERA: Online with $236 million. Star Wars: The Old Republic, manage to generate $165 million revenue and Lord Of The Rings Online with $104 million.

Worldwide market for subscription-based MMOs was placed at $2.88 billion in total for year 2013.
