Virtual reality could change the gold farming industry
Ever since the first video games were ever created, gamers have dreamed of the day when they would be able to literally step inside these digital environments through the use of virtual reality technology – completely blurring the lines between the “real world” and the gaming world once and for all.
However, in the 30+ years that the video gaming community has been mainstream, virtual reality technology has never really presented itself as a viable option for those that play video games. Sure, there have been a handful of the VR focused games released every once in a while, but none of them have been able to offer the kind of completely immersive experience that the technology has been promising for years and years.
That’s all starting to change.
Companies like Oculus and Microsoft (amongst others) are developing advanced virtual reality tools and technology that are designed specifically to allow video gamers to exploit every nook and cranny of the digital universe is created by major developers.
Combine that with the fact that this technology is finally reaching in affordable price point that it is widely available to consumers and we are looking at something really, really special here. It isn’t going to be all that long until virtual reality headsets and truly universal experiences are the norm, completely transforming the way that people play video games – or, more accurately, experience video games – forever.
You should be!
How will virtual reality technology impact MMORPGs?
Some of the most popular video games on the planet are going to be most impacted by the introduction of commercially available VR technology, including popular MMORPGs that have already had the market as well as those that are in the development pipeline right now.
MMORPGs have always been some of the most immersive of all the videogame options available, filling their own worlds with lore, community focused gameplay, and a persistent world that changes dependent entirely upon the whims of the each and every videogame or and the actions that their avatar have on that digital universe.
Once VR technology is entered into the equation, things are only going to become even more immersive – and who knows what kind of interesting, exciting, and engaging opportunities that will open up!
What kind of changes will virtual reality technology have on gold farming?
What we do already know about the introduction of VR technology to the world of MMORPGs is that it will have a transformative impact on gold farming. We know because it already has had a transformative impact.
The Hololens was featured quite prominently at the recent E3 Video Game Conference, and demonstrated how players are going to be able to take advantage of virtual reality technology to do just about anything and everything they want in Minecraft.
Not only was it possible to scroll around the universe using nothing more than hand movements and gestures, but it’s also possible to use voice commands and movement controls to manipulate your character “in world”.
The Hololens was also showcased as the main command and control module for a variety of MMORPGs (including the World of Warcraft), and showed that players will have the opportunity to find gold and get into gold farming activities (effortless combat, mining, grinding, etc.) without any real extra headache or hassle whatsoever.
It’s difficult to imagine grinding being the same soul sucking experience when you are doing nothing more than gold farming when you feel as though you are actually in the world, fighting off all of the enemy combatants that you’re looking to crush to get your hands on as much gold as possible.
With virtual reality headsets, it’s almost impossible to find the grinding process to be dull or inauthentic (like it is right now), mostly because you’ll be engaging in the world in such a more immersive and complete way.
Not only that, but think about how it’s going to feel to create something in a digital universe using your crafting skills (and your “bare hands” thanks to the VR headset), then heading down to the Auction House or the in game marketplace and trading it out for cold hard cash that you can put your digital hands-on yourself.
Gold farming will never be the same again, that’s for sure.
What about crypto currencies?
Another major impact that the gold farming community needs to brace for is the introduction of crypto currencies (like bitcoin) into some of their favorite games as well as becoming the “gold standard” – pardon the pun – as far as video gaming currencies are concerned from here on out.
NXT is spearheading a new in game currency and in game economy system that will take advantage of the same block chain technology and algorithms that bitcoin is built on top of. This means that players will have the opportunity to do a bit of gold farming on their own just the same way that people “mind” for bitcoins, but it also opens up the possibility for players to earn real world cold hard cash – in the form of crypto currency that can be converted to another more traditional currency – just by playing their favorite games.
When you combine crypto currency possibilities with fully immersive virtual reality technology (and old school gold farming techniques and approaches), it isn’t at all inconceivable that one day people will be able to actually live and work in a completely digital environment and earn money that they can spend in the “real world” based on the activities that they partake in while playing games.
Talk about a wild, wild future indeed!
How can players get ahead of the virtual reality trend to be best positioned moving upward?
If there are a number of different things that players can do to get ahead of the virtual reality trend so that they are positioned to take advantage of emerging technology as it becomes available, and the first thing is to better understand the options available as far as VR immersion technology is concerned.
The Hololens, the Oculus Rift, and the HTC Vive are all front runners in the virtual reality world today, and are well worth a bit of research and due diligence. It would also be wise to pay close attention to the plans NXT has for the next crypto currency and digital in-game economy, just so that you know how to jump in with both feet should it actually pan out.
