3 Easy Tips to Make a Profit from Counterstrike Global Offensive
Counterstrike Global Offensive (CSGO) allows you to make some money off of in-game items. After all, you and your team are on a winning streak, so you deserve to profit off of it a little bit. There are several ways that you can turn a profit, but I am going to explain 3 easy tips to help you get started.
In reality, most players don’t have a clue how much their items are worth. So, before you jump on the Steam Marketplace, you need to finish reading this article – seriously.
1. Start Selling New Cases
First and foremost, players want items while they’re new. People don’t want to wait for the latest and greatest items, so demand rises and it’s your time to turn a profit. This is done by doing the following:
- Keeping up on the latest case releases.
- Playing and praying new weapon crates drop for you.
If you are one of the lucky ones that gets these cases like hotcakes, jump right on the Steam Marketplace and sell them immediately. The resale value drops immensely after the first week or two, so sell them as you acquire them to maximize your profits.
Jump on YouTube right now and look at how many creators show videos of them opening weapon crates. These Youtubers are not afraid to pay $10 – $20 for weapon crates because they know they will recoup their money by making videos.
Take a look at the Chroma 2 Case.
The case is purchased by people for one reason – the “Hyper Beast” skin.
The skin is so expensive that some people are selling it for $300 at the moment. This price won’t last forever, but there are weapon skin collectors plunking down a lot of money for this rare skin.
If you have the skin, you’ll earn a lot of real-world money.
2. Skin Hunting
Buying low and selling high is the way of the business world. Even in a digital economy, you need to stay on your toes and be on the lookout for deals. This is demonstrated through skin hunting that allows a person to buy skins at below the market rate. Even when prices are high, there will be someone that lists a skin – accidently or not – far below the going rate.
You’ll need to know the exterior quality to find the best deals. The exterior quality hierarchy is as follows:
- BS – Battle-Scarred
- WW – Well-Worn
- FT – Field-Tested
- MW – Minimal Wear
- FN – Factory New
Knowing the hierarchy will enable you to find items faster and more efficiently. Let’s take a look at how this is done:
- Go to the community market
- Search “Counterstrike: Global Offensive”
- Use the keyword “Hyper”
- Sort listings from highest to lowest price
Just as an example, I want you to keep an eye out for the StatTrak™ M4A1-S | Hyper Beast (Factory New). This is a very high-priced item, but you want to also look at the “Minimal Wear” version. This will allow you to have a base price for all of your selling activity.
At the current moment, the skin for Minimal Wear is sold for $300 – $350.
I like to keep $400 or more in my Steam Wallet at all times when I want to buy skins to resell them later. If you don’t have a Steam Wallet, I recommend you get one from here. Change the country region if necessary.
Your goal is simple: buy good quality skins (in this case, the StatTrak™ M4A1-S) when you find the price dips below the minimum selling price of the item right now. Is quite unlikely you’ll see a StatTrak™ M4A1-S | Hyper Beast (Factory New) on Steam and but be prepared for a buyout when that weapon is listed on Steam.
Since the ‘Factory New’ version is worth a lot of money, you may even want to buy it at the $400 maximum price. Steam only allows items to be listed at a maximum of $400. If someone is selling at $400, you can snatch it up and resell it for cash.
Check the price on G2G.com and turn around and sell the skin for $400 to $1,000 – it’s been purchased for this price before. On the site, there is no maximum selling limit, so for in-demand items, you can make a lot more money than on the Steam marketplace.
3. Market Activity
CS:GO is like any other game where prices for items go up and down all the time. In fact, if you want to sell skins or other items, you need to play close attention to market activity. As a long-time seller, I have to say that this is the most crucial element if you want to make money by selling items in the marketplace or online in general.
There is an initial hype when a new item is introduced in the game.
Right now, the StatTrak™ M4A1-S | Hyper Beast (Factory New) is probably the highest priced item in the game. There is a huge demand for the Hyper Beast and people are willing to pay top dollar for this skin.
In a few weeks or months, this skin’s price will drop.
Why? Two things will happen:
- A new hot item will come out.
- People will start selling the skin like crazy.
Every day that passes, someone else has picked up the skin. The competition will be overloading the market with lower prices until everyone undercuts the value.
My suggestions: You want to be on the lookout for other items that you can sell, such as:
- Gut knife
- Flip knife
There are dozens of high priced skins, but you need to keep an eye out because they will change often. My recommendation is to keep a close eye on the Counterstrike Global Offensive market activity. After a while, you’ll start understanding what items will sell higher, and which items will have their price spiral down.
You don’t want to snatch up items that won’t sell – or if you’ll lose money on your investment.
Always check the marketplace to ensure that the item you buy is still selling well. It’s horrible when you buy an item and try selling it a week later only to find out that it’s selling at half the price.
